Một số cấu trúc thông dụng

TOO + ADJECTIVE + VERB(TO)

Ví dụ:

- Mary is too short to reach the shelf.

- He was too tired to continue his research.

- The box is too small to put this machine in.

TOO + ADJECTIVE + FOR... + VERB(TO)

Cấu trúc này được dùng khi chủ ngữ và đối tượng thực hiện hành động của Verb(To) khác nhau.

Ví dụ:

- This shirt is too small for him to wear.

- This coffee is too hot for me to drink.

- It was too cold for me to go out.

ADJECTIVE

                                        + ENOUGH (+FOR) + VERB(TO)

ADVERB

Ví dụ:

- Her daughter is tall enough to attend the beauty contest.

- My son is old enough to go to school.

- This room is quiet enough for us to read books.

- He writes clearly enough for us to read.

TOO + ADJECTIVE

 

ADJECTIVE + ENOUGH

+ Too đứng trước tính từ

+ Enough đứng sau tính từ

Ví dụ:

- He is too old too work hard.

- He is old enough to walk to school alone.

+ Too mang nghĩa phủ định, còn enough mang nghĩa xác định.

So sánh:

- He is too old to work.

- He is old enough to work.

                                   ADJECTIVE

SO +                                                                 + THAT

                                  ADVERB

Ví dụ:

- This problem is so difficult that I can't solve.

- She speaks so softly that I can't hear her.

SUCH + NOUN + THAT

Ví dụ:

- He had such a difficult exercise that he couldn't do it.

- We had such tiring weeks that we were extremely tired.

SO THAT

                                                        + CLAUSE

IN ORDER THAT

Ví dụ:

- I get up early so that (in order that) I can do morning exercises.

IN ORDER (NOT) TO 

                                                           + PHRASE

SO AS (NOT) TO

Ví dụ:

- I wore a coat in order to (so as to) get warm.

- I wore a raincoat in order not to (so as not to) get wet.
